Texas Sex Offender Apprehended In Lawrenceburg
A wanted sex offender from the State of Texas was apprehended by local authorities Thursday after he was found to be living at a Lawrenceburg apartment complex.
A press release issued through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicates they were contacted by officials with the Cook County, Texas Sheriff’s Department regarding the whereabouts of Billy Jay Carter, age 40.
Carter was wanted in Texas for violation of the sex offender registry law. During the investigation local detectives determined that he was living at the apartment complex. They report that he had been residing in Lawrenceburg as far back as October of 2012.
Detectives were able to make contact with Carter at the apartment complex. He was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was held without bond. Extradition to Texas is pending.
